In 1873, a British bark bound for Boston, MA from Rio de Janeiro ran aground near Miacomet Pond on Nantucket Island, MA (see green dot on map), with a cargo of 4,000 bags of coffee. As the passangers looked on, 1,000 bags were off-loaded to refloat the vessel.
The 1,000 bags were transported by horse and wagon from the boat to the Thomas Macy Warehouse on Straight Wharf.
